Today, we are exhausted. However, our day's adventures make the exhaustion well worth it.
Emilio (our guide from University of Arkansas, Rome Center) met us at the Trastevere Square and led us through a variety of parks and museums.
The first stop was at the Chisea di Santa Sabina and adjoining Orange Garden...
It was beautiful and included several great views of the city.
Second, we walked down the hill to the Municipal Rose Garden...
It was by far the prettiest rose garden we've ever seen and included prize winning varieties that we may never see again. One of the best parts of this particular stop were the number of wonderfully fragrant species. Ever year they hold an international competition for the best rose. We think this one is quite a contender...
After a very brief lunch, we headed to our appointment at the Villa Borghese Gallery. Emilio, who is an Art Historian with the university, provided us an amazing tour through the house and gallery. While we weren't allowed to take pictures, you can believe us when we say the sculptures of Bernini and paintings by Rafael were more spectacular in person.
After the gallery tour, we spent a few moments strolling through the grounds of the park. This time amongst the large Mediterranean Pines and Italian Cypresses in a beautiful garden helped the group relax after time in the bustling city.
Our last two stops of the day were the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon in the heart of old Rome...
Can't wait to share all about the olive orchard and vineyard which are on tomorrow's menu!!
